Hi. I’m Steve.
Having grown up in rural Norfolk, l left home and trained as a PE teacher. I taught for ten years, working in Secondary Schools in the East Midlands and Spain. In 1989 I moved to Bath when I joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary. I retired in 2012.
Having experienced Hypnotherapy first hand as a client, I later trained at the Clifton Practice in Bristol, qualifying as a Solution Focussed Hypnotherapist in 2015.
Being a hypnotherapist is a privilege. Hypnotherapy is life changing for many people from helping to resolve fears or phobias, to much more complex issues such as depression.
One of the questions that I was asked in my Police interview 30 years ago was ‘why do you want to join the Police?’ My answer was ‘I want to help people’. I am so glad that I am in a position to still do this.
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is based on the philosophy of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and is concerned with addressing the solution rather than the problem. It can be very effective in the treatment of anxiety disorders, phobias and depression as well as many other issues. The approach encourages the client to contemplate, verbalise and consider what would be different to their present situation.
Solution-Focussed Hypnotherapy also uses scaling, which allows the client to consider where they believe they are at that point in time with their issue, so providing both the client and the therapist with a ‘point of reference’ which can be worked with to establish movement forward or backward and to map progress as the therapy progresses.
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy recognises that each person is unique and the care and attention provided is, therefore, specific to the client’s needs. The goals set and the support offered is tailored to deliver help to the client to enable them to achieve their solution. The therapy offers the client a secure environment and is delivered in a positive and constructive way so as to encourage and help facilitate change, which the client can then evaluate the effectiveness of for themselves.
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy helps by working with the client on positive outcomes rather than reviewing and bringing up past issues and experiences. Focusing on the solution helps the client follow different and new thinking pathways that create a more constructive and positive alternative to previous thinking.
During the therapy sessions the client is in control and fully involved in setting their own goals. As they progress and move up the scale they can recognise, acknowledge and assess their own progress towards their goals, which helps to motivate and uplift them and move on with life.
